Scarub
Scarub
When he wasn't watching Yo MTV Raps or Pump It up, Scarub, like many other L.A. hip-hop heads, grew up listening to the all hip-hop radio station, KDAY. It was during these early years that Scarub first gave himself the name Quaz (The kid who did), and later Mudd Foot, before settling on Scarub as his mc moniker. Scarub first hit the stage during an 8th grade talent show and he hasn't looked back since. As a student at L.A.'s Hamilton High, Scarub hooked up with fellow students Eligh and Murs and the trio formed the 3 Meloncholy Gypsy's or 3MG. Scarub like the rest of 3MG eventually made the move up to the bay area where he hooked up with Mystik Journeymen and was put down with the Living Legends crew.

The Living Legends crew is a family of independent hip-hop creators. From primary earth bases in Los Angeles and Oakland, the Legends extend worldwide and beyond.

It all started with BFAP (now known as Sunspot Jonz) and PSC (Luckyiam), who laid claim to the name of Mystik Journeymen in the early 1990s. By '94 they were locally legendary for throwing Underground Survivors shows, houseparty style at their loft - 4001 San Leandro Street in East Oakland. That's where the Grouch hooked up with the Journeymen in 1995, just before they took off on their renowned first European tour.

Around the same time in the southern part of the state, Mid-city Los Angeles to be exact, 3 Melancholy Gypsys (Murs, Scarub & Eligh) were part of the almost mythic Log Cabin crew going back to 1993. Log Cabin later broke up and the Gypsys wandered separately. As it turned out, the 3 would cross paths again in the Bay Area and became Living Legends.

Aesop came to Oakland from Fresno, Arata from Osaka, and Bicasso from various points, East, West and elsewhere...

In 1999 the Legends shifted their center of gravity to Los Angeles, but their presence has definitely not diminished in Oakland and the Bay. You know it makes no difference where they stay because the universe revolves around them anyway. Over the years, the Journeymen and the Legends have rocked Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada numerous times, plus they've toured the USA, north and south, east coast, west coast and beyond ...

In the years since the Legends have continued releasing solo and crew projects and now have a catalog of over 50 full-length albums and numerous singles. All in all, this crew of motivated do-it-yourselfers has sold over 200,000 albums collectively. The latest crew album "Creative Differences" has turned in to their best selling album to date, (with Soundscan numbers just under 23,000 so far) and continues to sell. Other recent releases are from CMA (Grouch & Luckyiam), Scarub, and Sunspot Jonz. New projects by Eligh, 3MG, Bicasso and Aesop are expected in 2005. March 8, 2005, will see the release of the Legends highly anticipated new album "Classic," a project the crew got together to record earlier this year. That was the first time in recent memory all 8 members were together with the purpose of recording a new project and what came out of those sessions is definitely their strongest material yet. Expect to see them spring 2005 coming to a city near you on tour promoting the new project. The group has no plans to let up, they're only turning up the fire, see if you can keep up. Legends Baby!!!!

Keenan The First
Keenan The First now resides in the sunny comforts of Los Angeles where he plans to take the next big steps in his music career. Diplopia was released in March of 2014 via keenanthefirst.com, and that release garnered much needed attention. But Keenan is focused on making a bigger impact than he ever has in the music industry. Analog Dive
Analog Dive
Hawaii born emcee Analog Dive was one of Hawaii’s best kept secrets, until he set foot on the mainland. He got his first taste of performing mostly freestyle sets, which was how he met Behasa, a friendship instrumental in production of Analog Dive’s first album “Fineprint”. An album that was nearly two years in the making, and features guest appearances from Mac Lethal, and local Hawaii emcees Splinta The Rat and Southern Cumiford. Born and raised on the Big Island he is no stranger to the ocean, a recurring theme throughout his early work. Blake’s unorthodox flow, at times harmonious, at others articulately rushed, mimics the same unpredictability of the ocean, no doubt a direct reflection of the love and appreciation for his Hawaiian and family roots. One can feel the emotion that comes with leaving a place of such beauty, familiarity and family in order to pursue his dream of reaching a much larger audience in Los Angeles California where he now resides. It was not long before he found himself a new family of creative individuals who shared his love for artistic expression and the Aloha spirit he exudes. 2011 marked a great beginning for Analog Dive, organizing and promoting LA Got Aloha and Ohana Tree. These events have grown from that first warehouse tucked away on Jefferson Blvd in Los Angeles to now making their home in Hollywood. LA Got Aloha celebrated its first year anniversary in 2012 with a sold out venue. People lined up at the 2012 Ohana Tree where he released the much-anticipated “Happy Endings” EP which sold all printed copies that night. The success of these events made it possible for Analog Dive to open up for Eligh of Living Legends, and to freestyle onstage with Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 at events that he himself organized. LA Got Aloha and Ohana Tree entail more than just musical performances. They are outlets for painters, photographers, chefs, lyricists, and DJ’s whom he works with tirelessly to ensure that they too have an opportunity to share their unique passions and perspectives. A truly humble artist, Analog Dive strives to reach the top, not by stepping over others but by collectively lifting each other up through collaborative efforts, the guiding principle behind every event, album, EP, or creative endeavor he is a part of.
FreeWill
FreeWill
FreeWill (real name William Merle) is an L.A.-area hip-hop artist hailing from Hawaii’s Big Island. Currently an artist and label rep for Rising Sons Independent (RSI) Records, he’s been working closely with Analog Dive for the past two years.

Merle knew while growing up in Hawaii, where he’s been writing since the age of fifteen, that moving to California would afford him the opportunity to grow a rap career he knew could be stifled by the laid-back island lifestyle by which he was surrounded. After arriving here in 2010 and couch-surfing for the year that followed, Merle settled in Los Angeles and studied at the renowned Musician’s Institute in Hollywood, CA. Through their Independent Artist program, he learned the ins and outs of recording, perfecting his sound and technique, and how to market himself in a cutthroat business in a city where everyone is trying to be a someone.

The self-described “conscious hip-hop artist” lists Eminem and Immortal Technique as influences and inspiration in his own music. Eminem’s fearlessness in “putting his emotions on the page” mixed with intricate wordplay and Immortal Technique’s “political stance” are qualities to which he aspires as an artist and qualities which are already evident in his craft. Merle’s fresh voice, unique style, and ability to manipulate the right words in the right way are hard to ignore. Expect all of this and more with the release of his EP later this year. His message is honest and blunt; gritty, bitter truth, served up with a dose of hopeful wisdom. It’s clear he’s not just rapping for the sake of rhyming, but for the definitive desire to inspire people to “break their mental prison, think for themselves, and not just eat what’s fed to them.”

Although FreeWill is relatively new to the Los Angeles scene, he has been blessed with the opportunity to open up for veterans of hip-hop such as Pigeon John, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, and Eligh of Living Legends, a performance he calls the highlight of his career so far. Driven by the success of performances like this, Merle presses forward as FreeWill rapping his way into the consciousness of the public with his talent, passion, and drive. Look forward to his growth in the scene as a hip-hop maven RSI is proud to count among their roster of artists.

MC Cormac
MC Cormac

Cormac continues to put his big nose to the grindstone, opening for such acts as KRS-One, Zion I, and Keith Murray. He also continues to do all this internet stuff by himself.
